Thesearchcloselyfollowsthe arrests of the two MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal - two days ago and drew sharpcriticismfromtheAAPand Kejriwal. Over the last few days, the CBI has received two new complaints, including a second case in Punjab National Bank (PNB), that involve either loans that turned into non-performing assets (NPA) or fraud that was committed several years ago. AfterPNBandBankof Baroda (BoB) filed cases against Nirav Modi and Rotomac Global, Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) approached CBI to lodge a loan default complaint against a Delhi 6 WORLD CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 businessman. The loan had turned into an NPA in 2013 and the bank has even sold a property kept as collateral to recover its dues, sources said. PNB also approached the CBI for the second time Wednesday against one of its branch managers. Formeddaysafterthefirstarrest in the rape and murder of a seven-year-old Bakherwal girl lastmonthinRasanavillage,this new Hindu organisation had planned the bandh to press for the case to be transferred to the CBI. “We have given the governmenttillFebruary28tomeetour demand,” says Sharma, who is also a J&K BJP secretary. When the girl’s body was found in Rasana on January 17, the Muslim Bakherwal-Gujar community protested by blocking NH 44 at the Kathua-Samba district border. On January 21, they blocked it again, after the arrest of the teenaged boy. “It is impossible that a boy of hisagemanagedtokeepherhidden for six days, raped and killed her over this time, and then draggedherbodyintothewoods where it was found. That is why we protested,” says the girl’s uncle. The protests resonated in the State Assembly, in session A protest meeting organised by the Hindu Ekta Manch at Parshuram temple in Hira Nagar, Kathua on Friday. Its members are from BJP, Congress and Panthers Party, andincludesHiraNagarBJPMLA Kuldip Raj. But for many of the Manch’s members, party affiliation is “secondary”. The Manch Jaipur has held meetings at Hira Nagar’s Parshuram temple and taken out processions against the government and police. At one such procession on February 13, a participant was holding the Tricolour, which prompted Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to tweet: “Appalled by the marches & protests in defence of recently apprehended rapist in Kathua.
