Police sources said the conspirators behind the murder were impressed by the logistical support Kumar provided to kill Gauri Lankesh and had involved him in a second conspiracy. Kumar, who was arrested on February 18, 2018, by the Bengaluru police for illegal possession of bullets, was in the process of procuring a gun to kill Bhagwan at the behest of coconspirators when he was arrested, police sources said.
