According to figures released bythegovernmentfor2016—the latestyearforwhichdataisavailable — farmer suicides in 2016 have come down to 6351 from 8007 in 2015 — a drop of 21%. Agricultural labour suicides, however, have gone up by about 10% — from 4,595 farm labour suicides in 2015 up to 5,019 in 2016. The Government has begun collecting separate figures for suicides of farmers and farm labour since 2014. In 1993 (49th NSS round), female migration was 38.2% in urban areas - that is 38.2% of urban women were migrants. In 2008 (64th NSS round), this went up to 45.6%. For men, it increased from 23.9% to 25.9% over the same period. For men in the age group of 15-59 years, however, this percentage has come down, from 32% to 31%.
