PhotoDNA is currently at the centre of a debate in Europe, wheretheEU’sEuropeanPrivacy Regulation is moving to effectively ban social media companies from using this software to proactively scan billions of images for child abuse. Companies such as Twitter, Microsoft, YouTubeandFacebookdonotallow use of this software to be used, even exclusively for blockingextremistcontentorterrorist messaging. Significantly, 93 per cent of fraud cases worth more than Rs 1 lakh occurred in PSU banks while private banks accounted for six per cent.
