Fan stabbed as violence hits English Cup tie

Fan was stabbed during large-scale violence before West Ham met Millwall on Tuesday while the English League Cup match was interrupted by several pitch invasions.

Metropolitan Police said hundreds of fans were involved in the disorder before the game between the London neighbours at Upton Park. One man, said to be aged 44, was stabbed close to the stadium and taken to a hospital. Police said he was in a stable condition.

The violence was condemned by the Football Association. “We absolutely condemn all of the disorder that has occurred at Upton Park this evening both inside and outside of the ground,” the FA said in a statement.

Couldn't connect, we lost our players during Indian Premier League: Coach

The Indian team arrived in London two weeks ago, punch drunk on success and the confidence that comes with it. Riding on 39 days of manic Indian Premier League action, they were the men in form, the side that had figured this format out. So what went wrong for Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team? Bad form? Bad planning? Bad luck?

Coach Gary Kirsten had one answer today: the IPL.

He was quite clear that the scheduling of the IPL, squeezed in between the New Zealand tour and the world Twenty20 championships, had a lot to do with the team’s disappointing showing. “We came into a tournament without being able to connect with the players at all. We got two days with the players,” Kirsten said this evening.

Terror email: To clear his name, Haywood on way back to Mumbai

US National Kenneth Haywood, who left India last month while being investigated in connection with the Ahmedabad bomb Blasts e-mail sent from his account, is set to return to Mumbai tonight in a bid to clear his name.

Source said Haywood, the Navi Mumbai -based employee of business skills coaching firm Campbell White, is flying back to his home in US through London on British Airways flight BA 139 due to land after midnight on Wednesday.

Sources said Haywood sent “feelers” to Mumbai Police that he regretted the way he left India despite a look-out notice. While he is not expected to be arrested since the Maharashtra Anti- Terrorism Squad (ATS) has since given him a clean chit, Haywood is expected to visit ATS on Thursday.
