For Maya 'slur,' Uttar Pradesh Congress chief jailed, her house attacked

UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mayawati, was remanded to 14 days judicial custody on Thursday.

Joshi was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Prashant Kumar who sent her to 14-day judicial custody.

Police said she was arrested on National Highway 24 on her way to Delhi.” A case has been filed under Sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between groups) and 509 (insulting a woman’s modesty) and Sections 3 (1) and 10 of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Bahujan Samaj party in a spot as rival candidate found hanging

The Indian Justice Party candidate from Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat, Bahadur Lal Sonekar, was found hanging from a tree near his Dharnidharpur residence in the constituency on Monday morning, sparking massive protests.

While the police initially registered a case of suicide, they later turned it to murder following the protests. Sonekar’s family members claimed he was killed at the behest of BSP Jaunpur candidate Dhananjay Singh, in connivance with the local police.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed the death was part of a conspiracy hatched at the level of Chief Minister Mayawati. “Top officials of the Uttar Pradesh Government are involved in a grand plan to ensure the success of BSP candidates in the Lok Sabha polls and for this reason the EC had ordered the removal of Principal Secretary (Home) Fateh Bahadur,” Mulayam said.

In Parched Bundelhand boy help for stealig water

Bundelkhand last made news over Rahul Gandhi’s midnight visit to Dalit Home, provoking Chief Minister Mayawati and the BJP to question his motives. But as Lucknow and Delhi debate Dalit politics, Bundelhand is seeing clashes and thefts over some thing far more basic water.

On Saturaday morning, 15 year old Daya Shankar and there fellow villagers were arrested for allegedly trying to capture a tanker to their village Mudhari in Mahoba district. Besides other charges, all four were booked under section 353 of the IPC for obstructing government work. Three armed policemen are since on duty to ensure that tanker water is distributed fairly in Mudhari.

However, as villagers say, a tanker is a drop in the drought for their cattle and them. Where Mudhari has 14 hand pumps, only 10 are functional. Each time they are used for more than half an hour, the supply dries up as the water level falls to low.
